What for ? Don't you have enough work ? Do you need money ?
Well answering these questions is not easy indeed! Yes I do work enough like that, and as my days are not extensible to more than let's say about 10h to 12h of work, I am not looking for more work to do. Do I need money, well, in fact I just broke my iPhone and want it replaced, I like photography and I would dream to get one of those very sharp lenses. So even if I don't really need money, in fact as I explain later I am even ready to work "for free" and have my institutions paid so that I can go to international conferences, buy this new CCD camera, get finally this experimental setup to function properly etc ... so YES I need money if not personnally at least for pushing my research.
The primary reason why I want to do consulting is that I want to get in touch with the industry and eventually cooperate with industrial partners. Why ? just because this is concrete, motivating, may give opportunities for my students, bring funds to my lab or university and also because the funding agency are requiring this very frequently. I think also that the industrial partner will gain a lot from our cooperation not only because of its minimal cost, but also because I am into innovation of thought and that is what matters.

Because I am a state employee officially I have to ask the autorisation of the "commission de déontologie". Unofficial contacts (free) to define the problem are however authorized and even wished. There is a structure called Floralis setup by my unuversity to deal with all the legal aspects of subcontracting. When do we start ?
I completely reviewed the measurement circuit and introduced rigourous grounding of the instrument and the sensor, that solved the problem. To reach the thermal limit more work is necessary though. We have several ideas we would like to test
