Job opportunities
Our group offers opportunities for first or second year master internships, Ph.D students, postdocs and seeks outstanding
candidates for guiding them through the CNRS permanent positions competition that takes place every year. If you are interested
in theoretical aspects, code developments or straightforward applications of
ab initio simulations to real systems of
interest in nanosciences or "green energy" generation, you may contact us to discuss of training or research positions.
Master internships with us
We welcome every year young undergraduate master students for typically 3 months internships or longer periods (e.g. German
student engaged in a Master diploma program). Besides French students, we recently worked with Master students from Montreal
(Canada) and Ilmenau (Germany). You should have an acquired taste for theory, quantum mechanics, and possibly not being afraid by
computers.
In the French system, first/second year master students receive a monthly honorarium.
Grenoble Ph.D programs
Besides Ph.D fundings on personal research contract (which come slowly and disappear swiftly), Grenoble offers every year
several fellowships for motivated French or foreign students. You may contact us and have a look to the Grenoble
Nanoscience foundation (see the "Ongoing call" link) and
LANEF programs.
CNRS permanent positions: what is it and how does it work ?
The CNRS, namely the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, recruits every year about 350 permanent researchers
in all fields of science, from mathematics, physics to humanities. For condensed matter physics, this amounts roughly
to 10 positions at the junior level (typically Ph.D plus 2 to 4 years of postdoc) and 2 positions at a more advanced
level (PhD plus 4 to 6 years). It is a national competition taking place in Paris every year around february
(See: http://www.cnrs.fr/en/join/word-dhr.htm).
Candidates should have an outstanding CV, a project research prepared with a laboratory and a research team. As such,
if you are interested in joining our group, you should contact us rather early to have time to discuss, evaluate the chances
considering the research program proposed and its adequation with our priorities. Note that 1/3 of the CNRS permanent
researchers are not ... French.
